When creating a budget with a Beam member, we work together to consider all the different items we need to fund to help them get back to work. However, sometimes the costs of those items might change during the time it takes to raise the money. In other cases, unforeseen costs relating to, say, equipment might be incurred at a later date. 

To ensure we have funds for these scenarios, we crowdfund a contingency budget item on each campaign which is roughly equivalent to 10% of the campaign total. This money is then pooled between all the members and accessed as and when members need it. 100% of contingency money is used for member-related expenses.
